Safe Laboratory Practices

1) Only authorized people allowed in the lab at all times
2) No smoking, tobacco products, food, beverages, or cosmetic application (including lip balm) in the lab
3)Required personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn while in the lab (and should be taken off before leaving the lab)
4)Maintain a clean, uncluttered work area
5)Identify (label) EVERYTHING
6)Report all accidents or near misses to your instructor, lab supervisor or Department Chair

Why is lab safety something you should be concerned about?

1)To protect yourself from laboratory hazards;
2) To protect others (lab partners, instructors, people who use the lab after you are done) from laboratory hazards;
